Another Chapter 17 Success!

From Ken Carpenter

Finally flew last week. No major problems. It flies hands off straight as an arrow running smooth. Our prop may be a little flat since it will turn up 2400 RPM in climb. It is 57 pitch. We are flying with fake English registration G-ATDK and US N # 80660. The TDK stands for Tom, Dale and Ken.

HINTS FOR HOMEBUILDERS' VIDEOS NOW ONLINE

In keeping with EAA's efforts to offer knowledge and information in the most user-friendly and readily available ways, EAA has created Hints for Homebuilders, a series of short videos that are now available online. Subjects for these initial videos were selected and developed by EAA staff and member volunteers.

"EAA has always been about sharing knowledge among members, and these new video tips are just another way of doing that, taking advantage of the opportunities the Internet provides," said Charlie Becker, director of EAA's member programs. "We're hoping to develop an entire catalog of tips, tricks, and alternative methods that will be valuable to EAA members."

A new media outlet for aviation takes flight:

Milford Shirley, president of Chapter 193 in Jacksonville, Florida and fellow EAAer Brian Kraut have started Flight Time Radio which airs Saturdays at 9 am on AM 1320 WBOB. You can listen over the web by going to www.flighttimeradio.com. Live and archive shows.

Chapter 17 welcomes a new Aviation database. Check out what is available at FunPlacesToFly.com for a whole bunch of interesting stuff.

Jim Smith is the webmaster for Chapter 1246 in McKinney Texas (North of Dallas), but he has created a fun and powerful website for aviators everywhere.

"USER FEE INFORMATION CENTRAL
For All EAA Members

On August 7, 2007, EAA sent a mass e-mail to all EAA members (with e-mail addresses on file) enlisting their immediate help in urging U.S. Senators and Representatives to reject user fees for general aviation.

The user fee debates are approaching their climax. When Congressional leaders return from their summer break on September 7, final debate will begin in earnest. Versions of H.R. 2118 and S. 1300 will be addressed by them shortly after September 7, then forwarded to a joint committee to work out differences between the two bills. After the joint committee approves a joint bill, the proposed legislation will go to the White House for the President’s signature. This could occur within a two- to four-week period.

EAA is asking you, your friends, your neighbors, and airport partners to WRITE NOW.

Inform your elected congressional leaders you support House Bill 2881 (no user fees) and are strongly opposed to the user fee sections of Senate Bill 1300. .

Looking for something a little more interesting than the same old "Hundred Dollar Hamburger?" Check out a great destination just over the hills in Hendersonville, NC.

The Western North Carolina Air Museum is just the place to soak up aviation history and enjoy viewing some classic aircraft. Plus, it's close to downtown Hendersonville,  a great place to shop and enjoy some first class restaurants.

For more info, check out http://www.wncairmuseum.com/index.php

From AOPA:
UNREGISTERED ULTRALIGHTS MAY HAVE TO BE SCRAPPED
For those 2,000 to 3,000 two-place ultralights whose owners have not bothered to convert to the Experimental Light Sport category, the end is near. If two-place ultralights are not registered and certificated by Jan. 31 as experimental light sport aircraft, or placed in the Amateur-Built or the Experimental Exhibition categories, they cannot be legally flown again until certificated. Scrapping them may be the only solution if such certification is not completed. The paperwork must be in the FAA system, not simply postmarked, by Jan. 31. In other words, you need to submit it immediately. See AOPA Online.

New Coalition of Aviation Organizations Created to beat User Fees.

Sets the record straight on FAA's claims.

The Alliance for Aviation Across America (AAAA) is a new diverse coalition of aviation enthusiasts and professionals, local airports, civic organizations representing rural and agriculture voices, city, county and state officials, economic development entities, non-profit organizations, small and mid-size businesses and others dedicated to protecting small and rural communities.   AAAA is also dedicated to properly modernizing America’s air traffic control system to enhance safety, promote efficiency and expand capacity in order to ensure ALL Americans have access to air transportation.
