Builders' Workshops

The EAA SportAir Workshop program is returning with several special workshop programs.

Frederick MD October 13-14 RV Assembly

TIG Welding, October 19-21, November 16-18, Griffin Georgia

Here’s a summary of each course:

RV Assembly
EAA is offering weekend assembly workshops for those interested in acquiring the skills necessary to assemble the popular RV kit aircraft.

Based on a similar format used in all workshops, the RV course will include such topics as; the FAR's pertaining to amateur-built aircraft, tools required, workshop requirements, insurance, engine and propeller selection, flight testing, etc.

The main portion of the workshop will be "hands-on" experiencing the techniques necessary to assemble the airplane.

TIG Welding
TIG welding is fast becoming the welding method of choice for people building their own aircraft. (TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas and is also known as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). The ease with which you can weld both 4130 chromoly tubing and aluminum and the high quality welds make TIG welding a perfect match for aircraft construction.

EAA SportAir Workshops has teamed up with Lincoln Electric and the Alexander Technical Center to present TIG welding workshops. We have a state-of-the-art welding workshop with 12 professional welding booths. The Lincoln Precision TIG 185 welding unit is used for instruction. You will spend time in a classroom learning the basics of welding.

You will then spend the majority of time in the welding booth learning and practicing the techniques needed to weld 4130 steel plate and tubing as well as aluminum.

Can’t attend these sessions? Additional workshops are scheduled for Frederick and around the country. Check the Workshop Schedule page at: www.sportair.com/schedule.html

If you are interested in registering for these classes or would like more information, please call 1-800-967-5746 or go to www.sportair.com to register online or obtain additional details.
